Southern Pacific purchased 12 massive AC-9 locomotives from Lima in 1939. Partially streamlined, the locomotives saw service on both freight and passenger trains. Lionel's models represent the locomotives as they appeared in service from 1939 to 1952 when they were converted to burn oil.
